What is a query letter?
A query letter is a letter of inquiry. Query letters are two or three short paragraphs depicting your story powerfully, in order to capture the interest of a producer and/or an agent. The goal is to get the executives to request your script.
How do I submit one?
Depending on whom you wish to submit to, every company has a different protocol. It is important that you find out what they are looking for and the most effective way to get the letter into their hands
Will anyone even look at it?
Yes and no! Many independent producers will look at a query letter and if they are interested they will request a synopsis, treatment or script. The major studios do not accept unsolicited materials, unless it is recommended. That is why receiving good coverage (script review) is so important
What do I do after I've sent it?
If you do not hear anything from a production company, in most cases you can get the hint. They are not interested or have not read the query letter. Focus on the companies that have asked you to submit your script to them. Give them 30-60 days, and then follow up with a phone call or e-mail
Do most production companies and/or agencies accept queries online?
Some do, but most don't. It is hard to keep track of query letters submitted through e-mails, as there is no paper trail. If you feel comfortable doing so, go ahead, but it is not recommended unless they have specifically asked you to send it online
Do movies get made because a query letter has been sent?
Yes, but not as a norm. Someone who knows someone generally walks in most scripts to the executives. However, sending a query letter is one of the best ways to get your script looked at and make a contact. Several writers have gotten representation and sold their material through our query mailing service. We have designed it specifically to be genre specific.
You may submit your query letter to Allodium Productions, as We are constantly looking for good scripts and great writers. Make sure your script is ready to be requested, don't drop the ball by sending a query letter too quickly.

Please do not send your ideas in the body of an e-mail. Please do not attach any ideas, scripts, treaments or anything that has to do with your work. We will discuss when and how to send them. Thus creating a paper trail for you. Thank you.
