IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU   Last Updated 27-Oct-07

We want to know all about you.  This industry requires each writer, producer, director, actors or executives to be qualified. This is an essesntial start to creating a powerful business for you as a writer or writer/producer.  Please read to the bottom of the page, then let us learn all about you.

Qualify

v 1: prove capable or fit; meet requirements [syn: measure up] 2: pronounce fit; "She was qualified to run the marathon" [ant: disqualify] 3: make more specific; "qualify these remarks" [syn: restrict] 4: make fit or prepared; "Your education qualifies you for this job."

Here is what you need, if you want to start opening executive doors:

Most writers do not feel they need to qualify themselves.  They will write a script, send it to one, possibly two producers, get rejected and declare themselves a writer that was never given an opportunity.  Most writers won't even check out the producers to see if their genre meets the producers wants or desires to produce that particular piece.  This story is just getting started.

Perhaps dentistry should work the same way.  A dentist should graduate from high school.  Read two, maybe three books on filling cavities and then apply for a job.  Would you utilize the services of this dentist? :)

The producers of writetoscreen.com know what it's like in Hollywood.  We are here everyday.  Writing, pitching, working with writers, developing, and yes, having doors closed in our faces with a smile and a thank you. We're qualified.  We've sold scripts, worked with produced writers and are currently running a prestigious series with famed producers, writers and directors.  We know the industry inside and out and if we don't, we know someone who does. We've worked it and worked it and worked it until we've created the opportunities to break in and break in we have.

After years of listening to friends or friends of friends who complain that they can't break in, we've decided to do something about this.  That is the good news.  The bad new is the writer has to do all the work, pay all the money, get acquainted, exasperated and agitated.  But there are good times too.

Wait, there's more.  Unless they know someone in the industry that knows their work, they need to get coverage and if the coverage doesn't meet studio standards, they have a few choices.  They may produce the piece themselves and seek distribution, they may throw the script on a shelf and tell all their friends how Hollywood "sucks" and that breaking in is impossible. Or they can actually work on the script until it meets industry standards for plot, structure, theme, dialogue and commercial viability.

"The last movie I saw sucked," does not count.  We all have personal taste. Some people may not like a movie and some may, the box office is all the testimony a studio needs.  The bottom line in Hollywood is literally the bottom line.  A gifted writer will watch, listen and gain knowledge from the industry, not complain.

There are so many gifted writers that will never get a chance, but believe this:  It's not because of Hollywood, it's because they gave up.  Those that believe in their work and have the tenacity and a lot of chocolate will succeed.  But the product HAS to be good.

For those of you who have just taken up the art of writing to those of you who have been in the game and need a break, here it is.

So, let's get you qualified.  Please be honest when you answer the questions, it could be the difference between you selling your script, or not.  We know how great selling a script is and we would like to take you down that road.  Put your seat belt on.  We will make no promises but one, you work with us, you keep it light, you learn and grow, you will make it.  We have the top of the line analysts and our readers are the first in Hollywood that are genre specific.  We wouldn't pitch a horror to Hallmark; we feel the same about our readers.  They are qualified :).  Now it's your turn.

Let's learn all ABOUT YOU

We look forward to hearing from you.

Please do not send your ideas in the body of an e-mail.  Please do not attach any ideas, scripts, treatments or anything that has to do with your work.  We will discuss when and how to send them.  Thus creating a paper trail for you.  Thank you.
